Centre County Solid Waste Authority
Then In 1989, the Centre County Solid Waste Authority began the implementation of a major recycling program for the county. Construction began on an intermediate processing facility and the Authority began to purchase the necessary equipment to provide curbside collection, commercial collection and drop-off services to the residents of Centre County Recycling services were provided to approximately 15,000 residents, 500 commercial establishments and The Pennsylvania State University. Over 80 drop-off sites were established throughout the County to afford all residents the opportunity to recycle. The Pennsylvania Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling, and Waste Reduction Act (Act 101 of 1988) set a recycling goal of 25%, to be reached by 1997.
